So last saturday it happened, there was no escape: my girlfriend wanted to see “SATC, the movie” and she had picked me to accompany her. At first I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to be seen in public near the cinema holding the tickets to this movie, risking getting caught by friends that would then get second thoughts about my sexual preference, but to be honest: it wasn’t all that bad! I actually liked the movie. It was a well-acted, funny (at times even hilarious) and insightful movie. I was under the impression that women usually avoid talking about their age, but it appeared the A-word wasn’t avoided at all throughout the movie; apparently the main characters had walked this earth for more than four decades and weren’t hiding it either! And not only the movie itself had its funny moments, the audience was pretty funny as well: there was this girl whose boyfriend didn’t seem to be feeling all that comfortable of coming to this movie and as if he wasn’t ashamed already, she tried to console him, a bit loudly, with the words: “see? you’re not the only one!”
As you know I am a very very spontaneous person and yesterday I suddenly felt the urge of going to the cinema again. So I asked a friend to meet me in the cinema and we decided to watch a movie called ‘Taken’ in which Liam Neeson plays the main character, Bryan Smith. Having recently divorced his wife (played by Famke Janssen) he tries to keep in touch with his 17-year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace), but Famke got married to this rich guy and the daughter doesn’t see her real dad all that much. Bryan doesn’t seem to stand a chance because her stepfather is so nice and rich. But then Kim decides to spend a holiday in Paris with a friend where they meet the wrong kind of people and all hell breaks loose…
This movie is pretty impressive with its Ronin-meets-BourneIdentity style action. At first daddy Bryan seems just your average Joe but when people start messing around with his daughter, this impression quickly disappears and al of the sudden the movie becomes very dynamic and exciting.
